Andy Szymanowicz

Andy’s connection to nature runs deep—rooted in a lifelong love of plants, land, and the rhythms of cultivation. He studied Ecological Horticulture at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and has spent the past two decades designing and building landscapes across the United States and Europe.

Now based in Lisbon, Portugal, Andy leads projects around the world, collaborating with an international network of clients to shape landscapes that are beautiful, purposeful, and regenerative. His work is grounded in the belief that design can heal—restoring both ecosystems and the human experience within them.

Andy specializes in weaving his deep expertise in ecological design with the needs of hospitality-driven spaces—from boutique hotels to farm retreats and destination properties. His landscapes are immersive, productive, and story-rich, integrating food systems, guest experiences, and native ecologies in thoughtful, intuitive ways.

In 2020, he founded Campo Culture, a creative studio devoted to land-based design and holistic development. Through this platform, Andy helps individuals and communities reconnect with the land—bringing vision, structure, and care to spaces that nourish and inspire.

It takes a team

  • Architect & Operations Coordinator

Coming from an architecture background, Sofia quickly understood that the human presence can not go without nature’s essence, searching in every project for the best ways to bring nature within and exploring all the different delicate details to do so. Trough this search for a more sustainable approach, she found the permaculture teachings and dived into a new level of deep knowledge and understanding of nature intricate needs and collaborative interactions, and decided to jump into a more “close to the ground” approach. It was during this time that she met Andy and Herdade do Meco. In 2021 she began working with him as an assistant farm manager, combining all of her knowledge and skills to learn first-hand what it takes to develop and maintain a sustainable farm. Her work at Herdade do Meco grew into her collaboration with Campo Culture as the architect and operations manager with a strong focus on her sustainable and holistic planning and approach.

  • Foreman

Born in Barcelona but of La Mancha blood, Nacho’s connection with nature undoubtedly begins there, in a beautiful town in the Jarameña mountains, Puebla de Almenara, the town of his parents and grandparents.

An environment of farmers, shepherds, and artisans, including his grandfather, Pedro, a gardener of yesteryear. Pedro did everything with love and drew magic from the earth. Nacho feels it is because of his grandfather and their connection, that he also has the call of nature.

In 2016 he came to La Granja where, with Andy’s help, he began, learning about permaculture, biodynamics, organic farming, land regeneration, and landscaping. He is now the foreman for Campo Culture’s projects in Ibiza, Spain.
